The Role

As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside consultants, we are looking for experienced IP optometrists with the higher certificate / higher diploma in glaucoma to triage and carry out pre and post-operative consultations, assessing the suitability of glaucoma patients for treatment and managing patients according to the requisite policies and frameworks for care.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Carry out assessments and examinations that are relevant to glaucoma
• Provide advice to patients, including explaining the appropriate treatment options to patients and the possible risks and benefits
• Analyse and interpret diagnostics data to identify and treat (as appropriate with antiglaucoma medications/SLT) new or progressing glaucoma-related ocular conditions
• Liaising with Consultants (as appropriate) to formulate/refine treatment plans
• Run glaucoma clinics post-surgery for patients, documenting findings in electronic medical records
• Provide clinical advice to patients and follow the appropriate means of referral to a medical practitioner as necessary

What You ll Need

• Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist
• Independent prescriber
• Higher Certificate (essential) and/or Higher Diploma in Glaucoma (desirable)
• Experience working as an optometrist in a glaucoma pathway in a hospital setting (desirable)
• Experience in working autonomously and making clinical decisions regarding diagnoses and treatment plans for glaucoma, referring to Consultant colleagues as appropriate
• Experience in the delivery of SLT for glaucoma (desirable)
• Experience of using electronic patient administration systems and medical record systems
