Description:

Aspire are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant with expertise in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a supportive and inclusive educational setting where you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in assisting students with autism in their academic and social development, helping them to overcome challenges and thrive in a structured learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with autism, ensuring they can access learning in a way that meets their needs. Class size ranges from 4 - 10 depending on the needs of the children.
Assist with the development of social, communication, and sensory strategies to aid student learning and engagement.
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to support differentiated teaching.
Support students in self-regulation and emotional well-being, using de-escalation and positive reinforcement techniques.
Create a structured and predictable learning environment to support students with SEN in feeling safe and confident.
Assist with daily routines, including transitions between activities, break times, and personal care if required.
Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to learning and development.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to review meetings.

Person Specification:
Essential:
Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an educational setting.
Understanding of autism-specific strategies, such as PECS, Makaton, TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children), or sensory integration techniques.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and calm when supporting students with autism-related challenges.
A passion for inclusive education and helping children reach their full potential.
Desirable:
Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
Training in Team Teach, MAPA (Managing Actual or Potential Aggression), or de-escalation strategies.
Experience with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) and their implementation.
A background in Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) support or Occupational Therapy techniques for ASD learners.
Use visual aids, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, and other assistive communication methods as needed.
