Clinical Lead-NHS Children and Young People\'s Gender Service (London) Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust We are seeking a skilled and compassionate individual to join the new NHS Children and Young People\'s Gender Service (London) in the role of Clinical Lead.

Applicants should have experience of delivering high quality, evidence-based care to children and young people. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Director and General Manager in ensuring that a safe and effective service to children and young people is always delivered, in line with national agreed standards ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to staff and be a source of clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team and lead a number of exciting service development initiatives.

The service operates Monday-Friday. Full or part-time (minimum 30 hours per week) considered.

Main duties of the job A new clinical pathway has been developed, based on the recommendations of The Cass Review Interim Report, the NHS England interim service specification, and the expertise of many clinicians from across the North-West, South-West and London regional centres.

The service will be delivered by a wide multi-disciplinary team including paediatricians, mental health practitioners, youth workers, nurses, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. Who patients see will be dependent on the support and care they need.

Children and young people will receive an in-depth assessment of their needs, and a care plan will be developed with them and, if needed, those supporting them. Children and young people may be offered a range of care interventions such as therapy, family therapy, physical health support, or mental health support for any identified difficulties they may want help with. The team will also liaise with health professionals in local services nearer to the child or young person.

It is expected that the NHS Children and Young People\'s Gender Service will continue to change and evolve as more learning, research and evidence is developed in this area, and therefore we would encourage applications from individuals with a passion for service improvement, audit and research.

Person Specification

Degree in Nursing or AHP
Registration with professional body (e.g. NMC/HCPC)
Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent pre-1996)
Recognised Management qualification
Post-graduate training in a recognised therapeutic specialty
Recognised qualification in Gender Identity

Experience/Knowledge

Significant senior management experience leading a large and diverse team
Proven and significant leadership experience at Clinical Lead level within services
Proven senior level experience of leading and delivering complex change and strategy development programmes in a politically sensitive and complex environment
Proven experience working at a senior level across multi agency partners
Significant experience and understanding of proven implementation of project management methodologies
Extensive experience of delivering presentations to large groups of stakeholders in often pressured and politically sensitive environments
Experience of creating a new team and motivating and inspiring staff to work together to achieve a common objective
Experience of teaching, training & clinical supervision of both trainee and qualified staff
Extensive experience of offering consultation to children, young people and their families and to other staff groups and partner agencies
Experience of demonstrable authoritative and democratic leadership style encompassing energy and involvement in planning and delivering change using a range of levers.
Experience of leading and motivating teams to deliver to a high standard whilst under pressure, and when facing changing circumstances;
Proven sophisticated relationship management skills to deliver internal and external stakeholder engagement at all levels, including managing relationships and encouraging collaborative working between cross-functional teams, and with third parties;
Evidence of delivering on performance targets and service specifications to local and national KPIs
Experience of providing line management to a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience of the full range of professional management activities including defining appropriate establishments, grading and recruitment procedures, performance and appraisal.
Previous experience of conducting clinical research
Understanding of the application of psychological and other theories relating to a multi-cultural and socially diverse population
Knowledge of service and professional leadership/ management requirements including common organisational arrangements, key responsibilities, professional governance requirements
Knowledge and clear understanding of the background to, and aims of current healthcare policy in the NHS, with experience of interpreting and applying national guidance.
Knowledge and expertise in current methods of practice in the area of gender dysphoria
Previous experience of working within the field of Gender
Understand health care commissioning and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities within an ICB/ICS

Financial acumen including experience of effective budget management and control, coupled with a detailed understanding of cost improvement methodology
Strong external communications skills in a politically sensitive environment and experience in handling media
